Five ways to build brand identity for your salon

Brand identity is more than just a logo – it’s the personality that separates you from other salons. A strong salon brand will help clients recognise what you do and draw them in. But where do you start? Don’t worry, we’ve highlighted five steps to build your salon brand and keep you a cut above the rest.

1: Create a strong visual style

A big part of brand identity comes from a strong visual style. That way, clients will recognise you through things like a logo, font and colour scheme.

Logos are what clients will see first and should make a visual impact! That means it’s worth styling your logo to show what you do and what you promise.

Fonts are used across your logo, website and list of services. Serif fonts are quite classical and appeal to an older demographic, whereas sans serif or handwritten fonts come across as more modern and appealing to a younger audience.

Colour schemes are great at creating a feeling to your salon, with two or three colours working best. For example, purple creates a sense of maturity, whereas pink is warmer and more playful, but both work incredibly well together to create a professional but fun environment.

All three build your style and overall personality, making you unique!

2: Brand tone and voice

Your voice is what you say, but your tone is how you say it when it comes to brand identity. Make sure your brand tone and voice are the same in person and online to give clients a consistent experience.

3: Make an emotional connection

Believe it or not, we connect with others on an emotional level, meaning it’s important your brand identity has an emotional element. Sounds weird, right? Don’t worry, it’s simply a case of putting positive elements in your logo, colour scheme and overall client journey, such as an icon that may play on nostalgia or an aspirational strapline. That way, clients will think of you as something positive.

4: Repeat your material

Marketing experts say that it takes three or more impressions for people to take notice of a business, so make sure you repeat your branding across your salon, emails and social media networks. That way, your logo, font and colour scheme will all be associated with your salon through repetition.

5: Network to clients

People need to know why you’re great at what you do and what you can offer! Social media is a wonderful way of getting your name out there for minimal cost, whether that’s responding to clients or posting your services. If your budget allows it, then advertising in local media or magazines are a great way to spread your name!
