With Apple currently rolling out iOS 15 for its devices, it is important to understand how this will affect your salon marketing. The most important of these is its Mail Privacy Protection and how this will work with tracking email open rates. To guide you through these updates, we have outlined the biggest change and the best ways to benefit from this.
iOS 15 changes
The biggest change from Apple’s iOS 15 update will be how its Mail Privacy Protection will work. This displays a message when someone first opens their Apple Mail app, only. Two options will present themselves, either to either hide their IP address and privately load all remote content or not. Chances are, most people will select the first option, meaning the sender will no longer be able to track if the recipient has opened their message. Apple confirms: “[The Mail Privacy] Protection stops senders from using invisible pixels to collect information about the user. [It prevents] senders from knowing when they open an email, and masks their IP address so it cannot be linked to other online activity or used to determine their location.” With this all in mind, there are several ways you can prepare to minimise its impact.
Tighten your call-to-action copy
An effective way to tackle the iOS 15 changes to privacy is by tweaking the copy in your email messages. Specifically, focus on crafting a particularly strong call-to-action (aka: what you want people to do after reading your message). After all, whilst you will not be able to measure open rates for those using Apple Mail’s app, you will still be able to measure if they click through and land on your website to place a booking.
Using trackable links
As links will not be affected by the iOS 15 changes, make sure these are made trackable. That means you can still use trackable links in your emails and keep tabs on who clicks it and on what device. If you are still pretty new to marketing and the world of trackable links, then make sure to use Google Analytic’s campaign URL builder. This will help you create trackable links for use in messages that link specifically to your website, meaning you can measure them using a Google Analytics account!
Send SMS marketing
SMS make for a perfect alternative to sending emails. Did you know that, according to leading SMS service provided TextAnywhere, the average open rate for SMS is 98%? With numbers that high, it makes perfect sense to use SMS marketing to make sure your messages are seen! Plus, for those unsure how to grab the attention of clients, we have plenty of template ideas to make SMS simple and work around those iOS 15 changes.
