Christmas is a time of celebration, but the busy period can affect winter wellness in the salon. There will be times when your staff are running low on energy as they stick to their busy schedules, meaning their mood may not be as jubilant as it could be. Luckily, we have some easy ways to lift them up…
Healthy eating
‘Tis the season to be jolly, but all those mince pies and mulled wine can create a negative mindset. However, with some healthy fruit snacks and easy access to water in your salon, you can promote healthier eating at the workplace, improving staff diet and mood.
Salon music
Music is well-known for lifting moods, so why not make use of it in the salon? Providing you have a Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) licence, you can play ‘feel good’ music to lift the spirits of your staff. You could even ask for an upbeat playlist of their favourites to help maintain their wellness.
Quick stretches
Your salon staff spend a lot of time standing in one spot, impacting their wellbeing with neck strain and repetitive actions. Don’t worry, this is easily fixed by encouraging your staff to step away from their station in between appointments! Even a few minutes away to stretch their legs can dramatically increase mindset.
Keep it light
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is common during winter, making people feel down from a lack of sun light. Light therapy boxes and lamps are a great fix, but nothing quite beats natural light. Keep your windows as clear as possible during the day and let the natural light mimicking lamps take over in the evening.
Social activities
Feeling over-worked is a strong factor in winter wellness, so it makes sense to give staff something to look forward to. A team night out, in-house yoga sessions or even a book club will bring your colleagues together and get them talking about it. Best of all, it’s a great way to blow off steam!
