The end of the year is a time to evaluate the successes of the past 12 months and set new, important business goals. Creating these new goals will not only help your business improve, but ensures you evolve with the industry. We have therefore outlined five steps to help you outline and achieve your own goals.
1: Evaluate prior important business goals
If you were already working towards previous business goals, examine how successful they were. Did you achieve what you set out to do? If not, are there any reasons why? Running a performance report or those on the most popular treatments, retail and overall bookings will help you pinpoint areas to focus on, such as ways to streamline business processes, retraining staff in popular treatments or creating commissions structures.
2: Monitor client feedback
Encouraging client feedback is vital to gauge the success of your services and, therefore, to set new business goals. Following a service, you can provide clients an email or SMS requesting vital feedback via a link. Once you collate the responses, you can form an idea of where to improve, such as customer service, enabling you to create an improvement plan. 3: Devising your plan
Once you have evaluated the areas, it is time to create those all-important business goals. Perhaps you wish for more of an online presence, meaning an online booking system may be the solution, or you want to focus on client retention, resulting in a loyalty scheme? Whatever the case, remember to make Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic/Relevant and Time-based (SMART) goals with a suitable budget, making them more tangible.
4: Share your important business goals with staff
This cannot be stressed enough – sharing the details with your team will ensure everyone is on the same page. Many goals will directly involve your staff, so it’s important they are focused towards those objectives. Holding regular staff meetings is an excellent way to keep them on the right path, as are training them or offering incentives upon successfully reached targets, as outlined in our blog here.
5: Regularly revisit your goals
Achieving those important business goals requires monitoring progress regularly, perhaps at the end of every month. Breaking them down will help you achieve them, particularly if you turn them into smaller, monthly goals that will feed into the larger one by the year’s end. Make sure you frequently assess your targets to make sure you hit them and head down the right path.
