Five essential tips and alternatives to salon discounts

With Black Friday and Christmas fast approaching, it’s easy to get swept up in the blizzard of businesses offering discounts. Offering a discount may not always be the best for your salon and clients, however. With that in mind, here are five vital discount tips to encourage clients through your door.

Providing add-ons

Discounts aren’t unique to your salon, but some of your services might be! Take a look at what makes your salon unique to others in the area, then provide your unique treatment or branded retail as an add-on. That way, you’re adding value to your services and not taking away from your prices.

Discount remaining stock

Knowing when to offer a discount is important, so when better than on the last of your retail items? That way, you can discount stock you’ve been unable to shift without undermining your normal prices. Black Friday is particularly good for shifting old stock to those looking for deals.

Loyalty rewards

Loyalty rewards are a great alternative to discounts, meaning clients can earn points for every visit and build these up. Instead of then allowing the client to use the points for discounts, meaning you lose revenue, you could substitute the reward with an additional service. This will often prove less expensive for you and make your clients feel as though they are receiving something exclusive.

Refer a friend

A great way of attracting new clients is with a refer a friend scheme. After all, people trust their friends and loved one’s recommendations more than anyone else’s! You can make it an attractive offer for the referrer by giving them something in return, such as plenty of loyalty points, gift cards or even a sample pack of your products.

One way to avoid a discount is by providing a personalised experience. Why not tailor a custom package for your clients, grouping together two popular treatments and one that doesn’t get as much attention? That way, you’re providing an incentive to purchase the package while still taking revenue, avoiding the need for a direct discount.
