The 2023 Spring Budget has been announced, but what does this mean for salons and spas?

One of the key take aways from Jeremy Hunt’s announcement is that there will not be a further hike in energy bills. Other key areas include 30 hours a week of free childcare to parents with children below the age of three. Also, tax on business profits over £250,000 will increase from 19% to 25%.

However, Richard Lambert, Chief Executive of the National Hair and Beauty Federation (NHBF) has concerns: “Whilst the investment zones, support for childcare and ‘Returnerships’ may benefit some in the sector, there is little to offer immediate relief to businesses locked into extortionate energy contracts. We call on the Government and Ofgem to facilitate urgent talks with suppliers to at least allow business contract payments over a longer period of time.”

The World Spa and Wellness conference took place on Sunday 5^th March to Monday 6^th March.

The launch of T-Levels in Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty Therapy has been delayed to September 2024.

The Technical Levels, designed by the Government, businesses and education as a college-based two-year qualification, are set to equip young learners with practical skills and knowledge of their chosen field. For the Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty Therapy T-Level, that includes a work placement at a hair, barbers or beauty-based business. However, the launch of this has now been delayed, announced by the ifATE and DfE, in consultation with Ofqual and NCFE.
