Learning at Work Week is set to take place between 16th and 22nd May 2022, but is your business taking part? The week is a national event promoted by the Campaign for Learning, and provides a wonderful opportunity for you and your team to learn something new. This year’s theme is ‘Learning Uncovered’, which focuses on lifelong learning, helping us become more confident and skilled.
Stuck on what to plan for the week? We have put together several ideas to help inspire you…
Run interactive workshops related to goals
What do you want to get out of Learning at Work Week? Running a report on your current operations will help narrow down what the business needs and which areas to focus learning in. You can then create a theme for the week to unify it all.
Should you run a report and it reveals that retail sales have been low, you could put together a workshop on upselling products as part of the week. This workshop could involve enacting a scenario to gauge how your team currently upsells products, as well as scenarios on best practices to sell. Whatever the case, remember to make your workshops interactive so that your staff remain engaged throughout.
Learning at Work Week wellbeing activities
It is always worth having a discussion with your staff to understand their current needs and how they learn. After all, your team are what keep things running smoothly, so should anything happen to them, it then impacts the whole business. Therefore, you could run various wellbeing activities throughout Learning at Work Week to educate your team and keep them healthy.
Why not set aside 30 minutes each day for the team to focus on the importance of sleep, healthy eating, exercise and more, such as those from our wellness advice to maintain mental wellbeing? This can be especially fun if everyone can take part in, say, a quick cooking class for a healthy meal, to do a certain amount of minutes on an exercise bike, or tweaking the light and space in the environment.
Learn from each other’s experiences
You would be surprised with how much can be gleaned from another’s experiences. If you are in charge of a salon or spa, then chances are, you will be able to relay certain experiences that others don’t have. These stories can be used as examples of what to do, or what not to do, helping your team. This is important for learning what other people in the team do, too, helping one another understand each other’s roles and any best practices.
If you have an apprentice or someone new to the role, you could use Learning at Work Week as an opportunity to shadow a more experienced member of the team. This can provide valuable insight on how you work, whilst at the same time their new perspective can challenge more experienced members.
Watch how-to videos
Online videos are an excellent way to learn something new without ever leaving the room! Whether you set aside time for the whole team together, or stagger each member to suit their needs, you can teach valuable skills using how-to videos. This is particularly useful for straightening out areas of your software that you may have forgotten or not used. We regularly post plenty of quick how-to videos on our YouTube channel for Salon by Premier Software® and Core by Premier Software®.
Webinars for Learning at Work Week
What better way to learn something new than by having an expert explain the topic? There are two ways to do this – invite a professional in to talk about hot topics such as sustainability in your business, or have them talk on a webinar.
Like other virtual events such as livestreams, webinars provide a two-way interaction with an expert, providing an excellent way for the team to learn together. These are particularly useful when needing to brush up on areas of your software, for instance. Over Learning at Work Week, our expert trainers will be holding webinars to help you maximise the use of both Core and Salon, including during Learning at Work Week.
To find out more about how Core or Salon can help your business, why not book a free presentation below? Alternatively, if you already have our software, why not join our Salon webinars on Monday 16th May, or Core webinars on Thursday 19th May? For Learning at Work Week only, up to three people from your business can join, ready to refresh their knowledge. We also have plenty of bespoke training days available should your team be in need of more.
