Masks are now mandatory for those who carry out close contact services.
The update in regulations come as a result of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 in circulation. That means those carrying out personal care services, such as spas, hair salons, barbers, nail salons, massage parlours and those doing them at home, are required to wear type II face masks. This extends to clients, although the mask can be removed for treatments that require it.
Richard Lambert, chief executive of the NHBF, states: “This measure is designed to stop any further restrictions, such as social distancing or another lockdown.”

TRANSGENDER INCLUSIVITY IN THE SPA
A new Trans Awareness for Spas course has implemented for the spa industry.
Certified by Habia, the course aims to teach spa staff on how to cater for transgender clients. Part of this includes how to adjust treatments accordingly, use the correct pronouns and language, and manage dysphoria. The course also covers how to understand the needs of non-binary clients.
The introductory course costs £97 on Zoom, with the full course costing £197 and carried out on Zoom or at your spa.
