It’s a hot debate right now – should you, or should you not allow children in your salon? While kids in the salon or spa may not be for everyone, there are plenty of reasons why they should make the cut. We share just some of them as well as easy things to prep to help make your decision child’s play.
Children in your salon are a money-spinner
Children salon and spa services are estimated at $5 billion (£722.9 million) out of an overall $45 billion a year for hair care services, according to Inc. Magazine. That means there’s plenty of profit to be had if you expand your services. After all, kids will enjoy haircuts and treatments just as much as adults!
Make sure you have a children’s policy
One of the most important things about allowing children in your salon is to write up a clear policy. For example, maybe you want to outline that children are allowed in if they are accompanied by an adult and have an appointment, or that you’re not responsible for their supervision! Like your insurance policy, make your child policy easily accessible on your website and at the salon so parents are clear on what the rules are.
Create a child-friendly environment
If you accept children in your salon, then remember to grab suitable equipment for them! Younger kids may need special chairs or colourful capes for their salon or spa service, whilst others may require the use of more sensitive products. This kid-friendly environment extends beyond the treatments too, such as a special area that may include a tablet to keep children occupied while their parent or sibling is treated.
Tailored services and packages for kids
Like with any treatment, you may want to tailor a menu specifically to children in your salon. For example, you could set-up a ‘Princess Package’ that includes hair sparkles, pale nail polish and pedicure, or a ‘Superhero Course’ that involves a boy’s haircut, a light oil massage and perhaps a goody bag to take home. Using Salon by Premier Software®, we make it easy to set-up services and packages too!
Being kid-friendly appeals to families
By promoting that you can have children in your salon, you come across as family-friendly. There will no doubt be plenty of families in your area who are desperate for kid’s haircuts and services, so make sure you market your child services to them. That way, you will come across as open and welcoming in your local community.
With Salon, you can set-up new treatments specially tailored to children and market them to your clients through email, SMS and social media. For more details, check out our Salon overview video or book a free presentation today.
